Climbing doesn’t have to be all about hills! For the even more adventurous, there are sea cliffs for bouldering and climbing. The cliffs aren’t particularly tall, but there are some technical routes.
Portlethen is a schist wonderland of small boulders and walls, being an effective venue for the serious boulderer. Overlooking the Harbour, the shore is pebbly and rocky so take mats and watch your landings.
One of the best known and most popular places to visit in North East Scotland is Bennachie. This much-loved hill is surrounded by various trails, while providing a fairly strenous walk up to one of the summits. With nine distinctive tops, there is the opportunity to climb to the rocky granite top of the Mither Tap, with its superb views into a landscape formed over 10,000 years since the last Ice Age.
