Portlethen & District Community Allotment Association is a local group interested in setting up allotments in the Portlethen area. We have been offered approx. 2 acres to lease including car parking from the community land held currently by Aberdeenshire council next to the Hillside MUGA.
There are physical plans drawn up by the council showing the footprint set out by their surveyors posted around our community at schools, halls etc and we think it should be called Hillside Community Park incorporating our allotment site, and we are working towards developing this for plot holders and community use.
Allotments are a valuable addition to any community allowing individuals, families, schools and other groups an opportunity to grow their own. However, the benefits don’t end there. They also offer an haven for wildlife, provide recreational and educational environments, and promote a real sense of community and belonging. Gardening has therapeutic benefits too, promoting both physical and mental well being.
